Geothermal heat | Rotterdam Region

Gaia Energy is also active in the Rotterdam region. Gaia Energy is an independent holder of several permits and has a number of exploration permits together with Shell.

In the Rijnmond region, Gaia Energy is participating in the development of large-scale geothermal projects that make an essential contribution to making the heat supply more sustainable. At Rijnmond Geothermal, we, as an operator, are responsible for the preparation, realization and eventual exploitation of multiple doublets.

The Rijnmond region has a high demand for heat, especially from greenhouse horticulture, industry and housing. This is where geothermal energy offers a reliable, local and low-CO₂ alternative to fossil sources. In this project, Gaia Energy brings its many years of expertise to make maximum use of the potential of geothermal energy with partners such as municipalities, Energy Management Netherlands (EBN) and local customers.

We are involved in all project phases: from geological research and licensing processes to designing the installations and setting up safe, efficient extraction. As with all our projects, safety is key here — both underground and above ground. Thanks to our programmatic approach, we can develop multiple sources that together form one robust heating system.

Together, we are working on a future-proof heat network in Rijnmond — with geothermal energy as a stable, sustainable basis.
