Professionals & expertise
Gaia Energy was founded by Jos Huizing and Nico Kuipers, who have been working together in the energy sector for over thirty years. Since 2016, they have focused entirely on geothermal energy, believing that geothermal energy is the clean, reliable heat source of the future.
Today, we work with a multidisciplinary team of geologists, drilling specialists, engineers and project leaders on geothermal projects throughout the Netherlands. We combine technical depth with sober, safe execution.
What connects us is craftsmanship, responsibility and the drive to make an impact — for residents, companies and the generations after us.
Our history
What started as a pioneer company in geothermal energy has grown into a strong player in the energy transition. From the creation of Hydreco Geomec to the takeover by Gaia Energy: each step brought us closer to a sustainable heat supply for the whole of the Netherlands.
2011
Establishment of Hydreco Geomec
Start of the company that would later become Aardyn. Focus on development and operation of sustainable geothermal energy systems.
2020
Acquisition by ENGIE
Hydreco Geomec is being acquired by ENGIE through its subsidiary HydroCare. The strength in the field of geothermal energy is being increased.
2022
Name change to Aardyn
Hydreco Geomec changes its name and continues as Aardyn B.V., with a clear mission: accelerating the energy transition with geothermal energy.
2023
Aardyn becomes part of Gaia Energy
Gaia Energy takes over Aardyn and brings together expertise and portfolio. The ambition: a leading role in Dutch geothermal energy.
2025
A future full of energy
More than 25 projects under development with a combined potential of 500 MW. Gaia Energy is working on safe, affordable and sustainable heat throughout the Netherlands.
