What we do

Our role as reliable geothermal operator
From the first underground scan to the daily delivery of sustainable heat: Gaia Energy realises, manages and develops geothermal projects throughout the Netherlands. As an experienced operator, we take responsibility at every stage of the process.
We combine technical depth with a strong focus on safety, cooperation and social added value. In this way, together with partners, governments and residents, we are building a future where geothermal energy is a natural part of our energy supply.
Safety at the core of every project
At Gaia Energy, safety is not an obligation, but a conviction. Whether it's preparation, drilling or management — safety always comes first. Our HSSEQ standards underpin our way of working and are deeply ingrained in our corporate culture. We continuously invest in improving our safety culture and do that together with our people and partners.
- Strict compliance with laws and regulations (Mining Act, Working Conditions Act)
- Healthy and safe work environment for everyone involved
- Ongoing risk analysis and continuous improvement
- Transparent communication with supervisors and the environment

From subsurface to design
Every geothermal project starts with careful preparation. We will start with geological research and identify whether a location is suitable for geothermal energy extraction. We then arrange permits, design the system and coordinate everything with local stakeholders.
- Geological research and feasibility studies
- Permit applications and environmental procedures
- Design of underground and aboveground systems
- Involving municipalities, residents and partners from the start
Warmth for those who need it
Together with clients and partners, we provide sustainable heat to greenhouse horticulture, industry, residential areas and heat networks. Gaia Energy not only develops installations, but also builds relationships. We create solutions that work — technically and socially.
- Sustainable heat for thousands of homes and businesses
- Long-term cooperation with governments, housing associations and cooperatives
- Connection to existing or new heat networks
- Transparent and forward-looking in our cooperation

Reliable execution, careful operation
Our expertise comes to life in implementation: from drilling to the construction of installations. But it doesn't stop there. As an operator, we remain responsible for monitoring, maintenance and delivery — safe, stable and efficient.
- Drilling and constructing doublets
- Construction of heat exchangers and pumping stations
- Testing and commissioning
- Lifecycle monitoring, optimization and maintenance
Commitment beyond delivery
After the realization of a project, Gaia Energy remains responsible for the management and daily operation of the installation. We provide reliable heat, safe system use and continuous optimization.
- Operation: Daily control and maintenance of the installation on site.
- Monitoring: Constant data monitoring and analysis for optimal performance.
- Delivery: Reliable and stable heat supply to customers such as residential areas, greenhouse horticulture and industry.

Wells — Drilling and Completion
Working closely with our Subsurface Team, we develop a thoughtful geothermal well drilling and completion strategy for each project. This process includes:
- Front End Engineering Design (FEED)
- Procurement of long-lead parts
- Selection of qualified service providers
- Implementation of the drill program
- Downhole pump installation
- Transfer of the geothermal doublet to the Production Team
Our approach focuses on simplicity, efficiency and cost control. Where possible, we apply a standardized well architecture and optimize performance to get the most out of every drill. We supervise the entire life cycle of each well, with the aim of long-term, reliable uptime — even after the warm waterfront reaches the injected cold waterfront.
Maintenance and Repair
Together with the Production Team, we ensure the integrity and sustainable energy yield of our wells. We carry out periodic inspections with advanced measuring instruments and test methods to assess the condition of casing, tubing and wellhead. If necessary, we carry out repairs or component replacements so that the operation remains safe and efficient.
Thanks to our focus on proactive maintenance, the wells continue to perform optimally and provide reliable thermal energy for the geothermal installation for years.
How we work with partners, residents and governments for sustainable energy.
Our partners are governments, often municipalities where a geothermal project is being realized, technical contractors and customers. These customers can be companies, a cooperative or a heat network owned by the municipality or housing association. Sometimes there are citizens' initiatives that are committed to more sustainable energy. With Energiebeheer Nederland (EBN), an important partner in our geothermal projects, we work together to find and extract geothermal energy.
Working with our partners is not only about preparation and implementation, but an important part is also sharing information. We inform stakeholders about the project and discuss with them what that means for them and how we can best work together.
