A milestone for Central Oostland Heat Cooperative!

First contract for 2.5 MW: important step for Central Eastland
A few weeks after the information meeting for members of Heat Cooperative Centraal Oostland, the first 2.5 megawatts (MW) were contracted by one of the members on October 16. This is a milestone in the realization of our collective heating system: it is a powerful signal of confidence in our shared vision of sustainable heat supply.
The regional context: Oostland & Heat Cooperatives
The Oostland region (municipalities such as Lansingerland, Pijnacker-Nootdorp, Waddinxveen, Zoetermeer, Zuidplas) is an innovative greenhouse cluster with a high heat demand. Significant investments have already been made in existing heat networks (such as the B triangle) and in exploring sustainable heat sources, including geothermal energy, residual heat, and links between heat cooperatives in the area. Heat cooperatives play a crucial role in involving local gardeners and entrepreneurs, making customization possible and ensuring that heat and infrastructure are used optimally.
What does this contract mean?
- The 2.5 MW contract is the first in a series — a concrete result of the meetings and plans in Central Oostland.
- It shows that members have confidence in the model of cooperation through the cooperative and in Gaia Energy's technical and organizational skills.
- This marks the start of the rollout: more talks will follow in the coming weeks and additional contracts will be concluded.
Vision for the future
Working with Gaia Energy with the forces of Central Oostland Heat Cooperative means:
- A collective, future-proof system that is regional, sustainable and CO₂ neutral;
- Possibility of large-scale geothermal energy in combination with other sustainable heat sources, with stable, predictable heat prices;
- A system that aims to combine innovation and local participation: gardeners, members, local authorities together.
